Frequently Asked Questions

A. Melbourne - Ride Australia Bike Rentals - 382 Victoria St Richmond 3121. Short ride from the Melbourne international airport and approximately AU$ 50.00 in a taxi. Alternatively there is a good shuttle bus service for around AU$ 16.00 to the city centre. We are very close to the Melbourne CBD and Tram stop 22 is at our front door. If flying long distances we recommend a night's rest before collecting the bike.

A. Yes Mon-Sat. Note: No Luggage collection on Sundays. You can return the bike on a Sunday to our lock up area however your luggage is secured inside the shop which is closed on Sundays.

Q. What are your opening hours?

Q. Can I rent a helmet and riding equipment?

A. Helmets, gloves, jackets, trousers and boots can all be rented. Charges Apply

Q. What is the security bond and insurance excess?

A. The security bond is processed on your credit card and refunded upon safe return of the undamaged bike. The insurance excess is the most you would have to pay in the event of an accident. If the damage is only AU$100, for example, then that's all you pay but if the damage is AU$6,000 and the excess is AU$4,000 you would be liable for AU$4,000 and the insurance pays the remainder. You can reduce the excess with an additional payment when you collect your bike, this is recommended.

Q. What license do I need and what else should I bring when collecting the bike?

A. You must be licensed to ride the bike you want to rent. Full Australian, international or Country of origin license is acceptable if in English.

  • All licences must show motorcycle endorsement clearly.
  • Passport identification is also required for international riders.
  • The minimum age to rent a motorcycle is 21.

21-23 year olds can ride up to 650cc lams approved bikes..

Q. GPS / Sat Nav- can I bring my own.

A. Yes you can bring your own however you cannot assume it can be or will be fitted to our bikes.

If we believe it will damage our bike in any way it will not be fitted. Please do not assume we can fit the GPS at time of bike pick up, this may not be possible.

If the GPS can be fitted there will be a charge for the time taken to fit & remove the GPS. A. Yes. A lock can be supplied.

Q. Will my mobile phone work in Australia and will I be able to get a signal?

A. We recommend buying a TELSTRA SIM card for your phone when you arrive in Australia. (mobile phone shops are everywhere and SIM cards start at about AU$20). Only use Telstra. All other providers are hopeless out of the Melbourne City. You will get a signal in Most towns and cities. Be aware that between country towns and cities reception can be patchy. In most outback regions and some mountain regions it can be many hundreds of kilometres between towns and there will most likely be no signal at all in these areas.
